On May 21st Morey Piers opened the iconic Kong ride in a Hollywood style red carpet event. Even though the weather brought cold rain it did not stop the guest from enjoying banana themed food and beverages. Guest were able to walk the red carpet and have our picture taken by the paparazzi. At the end of the carpet guest were offered hors d’oeuvre which included mini buckets of Curley fries which is another iconic Morey’s Piers tradition. We had a chance to walk through the Kong gift store which is directly under the ride and were offered chocolate covered bananas.
This ride features eight shark-themed passenger cars that will fly 26 feet in the air, Kong is 20 feet tall and sits atop a raised platform 11 feet above the boardwalk. He is wearing a I Heart Wildwood shirt while he holds the famous tram car and he hangs from a lighthouse. Kong is a reboot of a Pier ride that opened in 1972 and closed in 1980 and the planning committee who was responsible for bringing back this famous icon to the Wildwood boardwalk decided to ask the public’s help on what should the new Kong look like and over 6000 people gave suggestions through an online survey.
Jack and Will Morey opened the ride with many thanks to the city of N. Wildwood and they gave the honor to the first ride to local elementary students who were picked through a roar contest. My daughters were able to ride Kong and they had nothing but smiles on their face when they exited. They enjoyed the ride and wanted to ride it again. As we exited the event we were offered cupcakes that of course were banana infused flavors.
Thank you to the Morey families and staff for having us and we thank you for a very enjoyable evening.
Yes that is me 5 days before I delivered our new daughter. I was unable to ride the ride but I was able to enjoy the food all night…
