Wetlands Wildlife Safari on the Osprey
Wetlands Wildlife Safari on the Osprey is a fun family adventure for all ages. Captain Bob will take you on an adventure exploring the wetlands wildlife up close and personal. You’ll be able to anchor at a sandbar hop off the boat and explore, combing the waters for sea life. You’ll also anchor up to an island of green where Ospreys perch above your head and rich green sea grass crunches beneath your feet. Captain Bob and helper will search out crabs, horseshoe crabs, minnows, sea snails, and much more. You will also cruise by the Ospreys nests and if you’re lucky, get a peek at tiny osprey babies.
Join the OSPREY for our signature BIRDING BY BOAT™ and WETLANDS WILDLIFE SAFARI tour. This is the finest birding by boat and wetlands tour in New Jersey. Birding and the WILDLIFE SAFARI begins immediately in the beautiful Cape Island Creek Preserve, New Jersey’s southernmost salt marsh and a critical migration stop. We cover the hot spots of Cold Spring Harbor then proceed to the vast tidal wetlands along the Intercoastal Waterway. Trips remain on calm inland waters. Captain Bob has been exploring these waters since 1979 and been running tours since 1995.
The OSPREY has an open and enclosed viewing deck with sliding glass panoramic windows. She is very comfortable even on a cool breezy day. A restroom is aboard. We have extra binoculars including ZEISS demo optics to try out. I hope to see you aboard. Conveniently located in Cape May just across from the Lobster House at the Miss Chris Marina with plenty of free parking close to the boat.
On a day full of drizzles and clouds, I boarded the Osprey with an 8 year old and 4 begrudging teenagers. We didn’t know what to expect. I honestly thought it would be more of a sight seeing tour. However, we were all excited to discover it was going to be a hands on adventure. I knew my 8 year old would be excited. However, I was surprised to see the teenagers eager to hop off the boat and get their hands and feet in the mud looking for sea life. Captain Bob is very knowledgable and great with kids. He keeps them involved and interested.
The Osprey has windows all around for 360 viewing. There’s a bathroom on board since you’ll be out for a few hours. Capt. Bob has binoculars on board for everyone to use. There’s a small sink in the back of the boat where some of the wildlife findings are kept during the trip, for closer examination. Capt. Bob does has some snacks on board for sale if you are in need. We just brought water bottles and opted for lunch out in Cape May.
