Lower Township will honor military veterans during the community’€s Veteran’€s Day Parade on Saturday November 10 at 11 a.m. The parade will step off at the Villas Fire Department and travel south on Bayshore Road to end at Township Hall. The event will feature high school marching bands Including Lower Cape May Regional High School, fire departments, community groups and local veterans. Deputy Mayor Frank Sippel said the parade will give the community a unique opportunity to show their support and appreciation to veterans. Ocean City’s small-town version of “Black Friday” takes place on Friday, Nov. 23. The Christmas in the Downtown – “Our Miracle on Asbury Avenue” – takes place 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be a warm and entertaining time featuring carolers and performers throughout downtown Asbury Avenue between Sixth Street and 11th Street. Downtown stores will offer discount shopping for gifts, and many Asbury Avenue restaurants will be open. Free horse-and-carriage rides will be available. Entertainment and Christmas carols will begin at 4 p.m. on the steps of City Hall at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue. Singer Jackie Evancho will perform and offer a preview of her show on Saturday. The event culminates around 5 p.m. when Santa Claus will emerge on the rooftop of City Hall.

Ride the Seashore Lines on a historic, comfortable and fun train ride with Santa Claus, as Santa returns to visit with children (young and older!) on board The Santa Express! The Santa Express will operate every weekend and select weekdays and evenings between Thanksgiving and Christmas! There’€™s even a train ride after Christmas! The Santa Express Flyer is a shorter, approximately one hour round trip, designed with the ‘little ones’ in mind. The Lower Township Rotary Club will shine a light on the holiday season beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. when the township’€s Christmas tree will be illuminated. The event has been a community tradition and is a way for the residents to appreciate the fellowship of community and the veterans that gave so much for their country. This year, a new addition is a toy and food drive that will benefit local Lower Township families. Anyone attending the tree lighting can bring a new unwrapped toy or a food donation to the ceremony. The program begins inside the recreation center with a presentation by the members of the rotary and local officials and a visit from Santa Claus ends the evening’s festivities.
